SMOTJ Scholarship Program Smashes Previous Record!

TEMPLARS,

The SMOTJ Scholarship Program has broken all previous records. This academic year we are sponsoring a record 81 high school students at 8 different Christian schools which is an increase of 25 more students over last year (+45%). University students held steady at 13 but we are anticipating an additional 5 student nurses for 2nd semester at Bethlehem University. The total expended (without the 5 additional nurses is $163,900 which is an increase of 32% over previous years.

We have also had some significant new ways of funding scholarships. The individual board members of the Raymond Davis Templar Foundation are now funding a scholarship at a Coptic School in Jerusalem. The Priory of St. King Charles the Martyr created an award which they present once per year to a distinguished Templar. In a addition to a beautiful medallion, the Priory funds a scholarship in honor of the recipient. Bishop Ted and Chairman Keith are the first two Templars to be so honored. We recently had a member who decided to fund scholarships in the names of each of her grandchildren as a way getting them involved in charitable giving. We also have two scholarships that are being funded anonymously, so they are identified as being sponsored by “Silent Knights.”

Most recently the 2018 Pilgrims decided to collectively fund a half scholarship at the Franciscan Terra Sancta School in Bethlehem to honor their shared experience.

While the 2018-2019 Academic Year Scholarship Program is closed for the year, we are already engaged in trying to identify sponsors for the fall of 2019. As you can see there are many different ways for you to become a sponsor and in each case, you will really be making a difference in the life of a child! Don’t pass this opportunity by – please consider becoming a scholarship sponsor for the 2019-2020 academic year!
